AB425™: MultiZone Wireless Microwave Transmission Solution for Live Broadcasting Events in Distributed Zones and Multi-Vanue

The AB425™ wireless broadcast system enables camera teams to transmit broadcast sessions directly from cameras to control centers over the air. The AB425 supports ABonAir’s AB-MultiZone technology that can cover massive areas and even multiple zones with a single receiver, connecting up to 250 MIMO antennas. Deployment can start with as few as 2 antennas and grow as required.

The system can be deployed in multiple topologies for ease of installation: daisy chain, star or any combination of the two, enabling flexible topologies based on venue requirements. The system automatically identifies the topology in place, making setup simple and easy.

ABonAir’s AB425 utilizes full MIMO radio architecture and employs two antennas at the transmitter side and as many as needed in the receiver, allowing simultaneous transmission of two data streams via two radio transceivers. Combining signals into one signal in the receiver produces better coverage and stability. AB425 includes integrated Camera Control Units (CCU or RCP) and Tally Light to perfectly support multi-camera broadcast sessions. The system allows video transmission of up to 2.5 km. AB425 system supports integrated Intercom for communication between the cameraman and the director on the same RF channel as the video content.

AB425 connects to Fiber Coverage Extender (FCE) to provide flexible antenna deployment through fiber infrastructure

For fixed setups or a temporary production

Until a few years ago, only large networks could use wireless equipment because it required purchasing expensive frequency licenses from the regulator. In recent years, however, governments and regulators around the world provide unlicensed frequencies for public use for any purpose – including video transmission – allowing even smaller productions to use wireless links easily and free of charge. To answer this demand, manufacturers started to develop unlicensed solutions. Unlicensed systems' volume grew and drove cost down, motivating big networks to also use them even though they own frequencies.

MIMO Multiple Input Multiple Output antenna array

MIMO is a method for multiplying the capacity of a radio link using multiple transmit and receive antennas to take advantage of multipath propagation. MIMO has become an essential element of wireless communication product especially those using OFDM

MIMO specifically refers to a practical technique for sending and receiving more than one data signal simultaneously over the same radio channel by exploiting multipath propagation.

Single-Zone & Multi-Zone (FCE)

Single-Zone & Multi-Zone Fiber Coverage Extender (FCE) support

The AB425™ supports ABonAir’s Fiber Coverage Extension (FCE), which enables connection of a single receiver to multiple FCEs in various venue locations (e.g. Horse Race Track – race track, stables and the winning circle) or even on completely separate sites (e.g. football stadium, basketball arena and swimming pool) all via fiber cables with unlimited range.

CCU  supports Sony, Panasonic, Ikegami, Grass Valley & Hitachi Camera Control Units (CCU/RCP)

Yes, The AB425™ unique Data port technology enables it to support all the major camera brand manufacturers CCU transparently over the wireless and also over the FCE.

Intercom integrated intercom & IFB using the same RF channel

Intercom integrated intercom & IFB using the same RF channel

ABonAir’s system is the only one supporting integrated Intercom for communication between the cameraman and the director on the same RF channel as the video content. ABonAir’s system does not require an additional RF channel allocation for the Intercom or additional equipment support. This reduces cost, setup time and frequency usage.

Wide coverage distance up to 2.5km/1.5 miles per zone

Optimization of wireless and video requirements and careful radio design combined with advance MIMO technology enable ABonAir engineers to extent the system range up to full 2.5 Km/1.5miles in clear line of site. In drone application where clear line is perfect this range can be extended to 5Km/3miles.

Bi-Directional radio with per pixel acknowledgement

Bi-Directional radio with per pixel acknowledgement

In uni-directional links, the transmitter sends video content to the receiver without receiving any feedback. In bi-directional links, both transmitter and receiver can send and receive data and control information: a packet acknowledgment mechanism identifies errors and quickly fixes them (by re-transmitting the corrupted data), before the frame is presented. This enables bi-directional solutions to assure that all the data is well received without errors hence increase picture quality.
