Las Vegas, NV, April 7, 2014: Today ABonAir, a leading provider of wireless broadcast transmitters, launched its Fiber Coverage Extender (FCE) system. The Fiber Coverage Extender was designed to solve the problem of complicated antenna setting in outdoor wireless transmission where antennas are positioned far from the receiver in the media center (or mobile broadcast truck). Employing fiber optic cables’ connection between the antenna array to the receiver at the media center, ABonAir Fiber Coverage Extender enables ease of transmission of over the air broadcasts from locations such as sports stadiums, golf fields and other sports arenas.

Growing numbers of broadcast professionals benefit from wireless transmission flexibility. Unique shooting angles, original content creation and quick set ups are just some examples of wireless advantages for outdoor broadcast productions.

Outdoor wireless broadcast transmissions often encounter deployment challenges. In a typical wireless configuration, the transmitter (attached to the camera in the field) sends out content to a receiver located at the media center (such as mobile truck). In many sports events antennas are located inside the stadium whereas the mobile truck is in the parking lot, several hundred meters away. More problematically, the mobile truck may be behind a metal and/or concrete construction, such as the stadium wall. Installing long antenna cables is expensive, difficult and time-consuming. An elegant solution employs fiber optics, which are simple to work with and low cost, particularly because existing fiber optic networks already cover many stadiums.
